There's a moment about twenty minutes into Midnight Static where the film quietly tells you what kind of ride you're in for. Nadia, the graveyard-shift radio host, takes a caller who describes a traffic accident in perfect detail — an accident that happens outside her studio window ninety seconds later.
A city that hasn't happened yet
The premise could easily have collapsed into puzzle-box tedium. Instead, the script uses it to ask smaller, sharper questions: if you knew the next hour, would you warn strangers or protect your own?
You're not predicting the future, Nadia. You're just the first one hearing the present.
The verdict
It stumbles slightly in the final ten minutes, but that's a small toll for a film this confident. See it late at night, with the lights off, radio on.
